A Whole New World

Today I went to relive some of my childhood, Aladdin (1992) was probably one of my favourite movies as a kid. The magic of the original is definitely still there maybe even more so, I think a majority of people were worried or not expecting much. It couldn’t be further from that, such a wonderful live action take on such a beloved movie. The live actions Disney have been taking on are either a hit or miss in some cases, I think they’ve really hit the nail on the head with this one.

Many were also worried about Will Smith filling such big shoes, in my opinion he did a great job and brought some of his own flare to the character of Genie. Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott were great choices for Aladdin and Jasmine, both relatively unknown I think we’ll see big things from them soon. Their chemistry was off the charts, I really think they couldn’t have done much better. The Magic Carpet stole the show as usual with a couple of small moments.

The music was fantastic with a couple of new additions for Jasmine, you’ll be singing leaving the theatre. The story was very faithful to the original, with the added addition of a women’s rights storyline thrown in. Very timely for today’s issues in society, can’t have a Disney movie without a message.

But really it was such a great movie, and I’m happy to say it’s a must see. If you loved the original I hope you’ll love this too.
